Cleaning
Never turn the air-supply off until the Oregon Air Stone is out of the water.
When the Oregon Air Stone diffuser is still in the water and the air supply gets turned off the water tries to run back up the hose to the water level pulling junk from the bottom of the container into the diffuser which clogs the diffuser.
An easy fix for this is to install a low pressure check valve in the air supply line
To clean your Oregon Air Stone diffuser use a double-female-swivel garden hose adapter (Click Here to buy). Cleaning is most effective when the Oregon Air Stone has recently been in use because the silt tends to dry out and harden pretty quickly making it more difficult to clean.
Remove the cap from the end of the OAS diffuser
Screw the female swivel onto the exposed male threads
Screw the end of a garden hose to the other side of the female swivel
Turn on the garden hose water supply
Put your thumb over the brass hose barb at the other end of the OAS diffuser
Wiggle the OAS diffuser around until the water runs clear
To clean the outside simply spray it off using a garden hose with a pressure nozzle
Note: It is not recommended to use a pressure washer on the fabric of the OAS diffuser unless great care is taken. Most pressure washers, when held too close to the fabric, will tear a hole in it ruining the OAS diffuser. Even a small hole will create a path of least resistance rendering the entire section of diffuser ineffective.
“Daisy Chaining” for Custom Lengths
By removing the cap from one OAS diffuser and the hose barb from another and screwing them together you can lengthen your OAS diffuser. Just remember to use a channel lock or similar tool to make sure there are no leaks at the garden hose fitting gaskets.
